London in May is blooming beautiful

Hasn't this year's blossom been extra especially special?! Personally I feel that after the winter we've had, the smallest hint of sunshine and the trees have all taken a huge sigh of relief and gone,  "VOILÀ HERE ARE MY FLOWERS."

Strangely enough, the sun, the trees and the blossom, have all made me feel particularly floral. My mind has thus far wandered to all the fun floral events that are happening in London over the coming month or so. From daytime events to restaurant pop-ups to club nights, here are a few that have tickled my taste buds....

With all the flowers blooming and trees in leaf, my thoughts wandered to the biggest and most famous botanical fair in the world: The RHS Chelsea Flower Show (21-25 May).
Attracting the very best garden designers, growers and flower arrangers, plus a bevy of celebrities and the world’s press, this year will be all the more special as it’s the Show’s centenary. Sadly it's a ticketed event so head to their website here ASAP to get one...

I understand that tickets are a rare find for the RHS Chelsea Flower Show, so if you find yourself without, or if you are lucky enough to have tickets and feel that the Flower Show will not satisfy your floral fetishes, then the Chelsea In Bloom event is a must (20 May-25 May).
Chelsea In Bloom echoes the Chelsea Flower Show's botanical activity on the streets of SW3. The event sees top local retailers compete by creating floral displays in and around their shops. Take a free rickshaw ride around the entrants before stopping off at the champagne pop-up for a glass of bubbly. On Saturday 25th the The Duke of York Square Market will combine with this event to produce many a floral feast. To see what's happening from day to day, click here.

Continuing with the floral vibe, I will turn my head to beauty and fashion...

OVer the next couple of weeks the Anthropologie gallery, on the Kings Road, will be transformed by uber-cool LA brand Royal Apothic, into an old-fashioned apothecary. The apothecary will offer floral scented products for the home and body as well as a limited edition fragrance to mark the centenary of the Chelsea Flower Show.

The Duke of Yorks Square is feeling particularly summery at the moment,  with 20% off Banana Republic and the new and exclusive 'floral blowdry' at the Richard Ward Hair Salon there will be no stopping you. You might even be sat in between Kate Middleton and Elle Macpherson. Ok very unlikely, but a girl can dream...

Finally I have found a few fun evening events that have blossomed for May...

The Botanist will be hosting a tasty little pop-up in the middle of Sloane Square. The pop-up will be from May 22nd to May 25th and will be running an elegant Oyster and Joseph Perrier Champagne Bar.

If Champagne and oysters aren't really your thing, then you must try out Min Jiang, a stunning Chinese restaurant that boasts breathtaking views over Kensington Gardens, Hyde Park and London's skyline. I mention this restaurant in particular, not because of its yummy food or sensational views, but because its floral cocktails are to die-for.
Here is the view from the restaurant:

Pretty great right? I sure it would be even more spectacular in the evening...
Now onto post-supper events. This doesn't follow the floral theme, however it seemed to good not to add. I have found out that at the end of this month, the top live music venue 606 Club on the Lots Road is celebrating 25 years . If you are a fan of jazz, blues, soul and R&B, head down from the 22 May to check out the host of bands that will be playing till the sun comes up. It shouldn't be missed.

Serena Morton Launch Party

Yesterday was a special day. Not only was it the hottest day of the year so far (cue a sigh of happiness), but it also happened to be the day that my favourite art curator, Serena Morton, was opening her very own exhibition space in Ladbroke Grove.

I worked with Serena at her previous gallery on Dover Street during my university holidays a couple of years ago. She doesn't only have an incredible eye, she is also the loveliest person you will ever meet. Since working with her, she has kindly taken me under her wing, becoming my fairy godmother if you will.

I couldn't wait to see her and all the artists she was representing.

Many people had come from all over town to support her and check out her latest works of art....

these are a few of my favourite pieces from the night...

beauty out of waste

All in all, a pretty fabulous do with incredible variation. For more information on these pieces and others, check out Serena Morton's website here.

The opening night was such a huge success. I left feeling so happy and excited for Serena. With a fantastic new space and extraordinary pieces, who knows what she will achieve next. All I do know is that it will be great.
If only I had 10k to splash ey!

Bill's Café and Restaurant

There is a new restaurant in town. It's called Bill's.

They are popping up all over the country, Bristol, Bath and London, just to name a few.

Harriet and I decided, as it was a Sunday and therefore an excuse for a lazy brunch, we would head down to the Clifton Triangle to check it out. Thankfully the sun shone for us.

The first thing you see when you enter are shelves and shelves of delicious goodies: from homemade jams, chocolate, juices, lemonade, cookies to organic wines and beers.
We had a quick perusal of the goods...

Harriets and mines eyes were out on stalks. We both agreed this was not what we expected.

We sat down to consider our brunch options.

After changing our minds a gazillion times, we agreed to go for 'Bill's Healthy Breakfast Board',  with a freshly squeezed orange juice and my staple Earl Grey tea on the side.

This picture is good, but I assure you it does not do our brunch justice.

A couple of happy bunnies.
After we were well and truly stuffed we headed our separate ways. Sadly mine was to the Wills Memorial Library in the rain. What a cliché - cheers Bristol!
At this time of year you have to appreciate the small things in life - Bill's Brunch is certainly one of them.

Duke of York Square Farmer's Market

This weekend has been lovely hasn't it? Weather wise it has felt like a little taste of Spring. I woke on Saturday to the sun shining through my bedroom blind and a small glint of the deep blue cloudless sky. Let's be honest, this weather comes round once in a blue moon these days. Maybe not even that.

There was only one thing to do with this perfect day: potter down to the Duke of York Square Farmer's Market.
For a few years now, every Saturday, there is an open air food market offering a range of fresh produce mixed with lots of international food stalls. It is held in the Duke of York Square situated directly off the King's Road in Chelsea (http://kingsroad.co.uk/).

At about brunch time I strolled over the bridge with my brother in tow...

We arrived at the market to see it in full swing. My favourite stalls were as follows, websites will be linked.

After making several scrummy purchases, my brother and I cooled off with a fresh coconut.

Until Hugo's sweet tooth took over when he saw these...

A little too sour perhaps?

After our tummies were well and truly stuffed with all the deliciousness that the Farmer's Market had to offer we decided to head back. Treasuring with us our goodies in several bags we walked back over the bridge arriving home to light the fire. After all we can't get too comfortable - freezing temperatures for the next couple of weeks? that's more like it England.

The Judas Kiss

I sometimes feel that I dont take advantage of some of what London has to offer. I have been told year after year that I must see this West End play and that West End play and I always respond in the same way - nodding fervently saying yes yes I need to book tickets. I honestly intend to follow their advice and see the play but sadly life takes over and I never get round to sitting down and booking the damn ticket.

Thankfully Easter is the perfect opportunity (opposed to the maximum stress of Christmas) to take time to explore London's theatre scene. 'The Judas Kiss' was mentioned to me by my parents, who happened to see it a couple of weeks ago. They explained it is simply unmissable, starring Rupert Everett as the leading role playing Oscar Wilde. Mum cheekily added that there happened to be rather a lot of male nudity - how did she know that would grab my attention?!!

After booking tickets for me, my godmother and my brother (not mentioning the theatrical nudist males that awaited him), we all became incredibly excited about the coming Friday evening's cultural endeavours.

Arriving early, we headed to my favourite Italian restaurant in the West End, Giovanni's. My reasoning behind this bold statement is twofold. Giovanni's serves the most spectacular food: pasta, risotto, meat, fish, you name it, they supply the best version of it. Another reason is the fact that it is a (relatively) well kept secret. It's hidden within a tiny passage just off the main street where all the theatre's are clustered. Basically if you didn't know it was there you wouldn't just stumble across it. They serve you quickly (perfect if you need to make a quick dash for the theatre) but the food is always cooked to perfection. I'm not the only person who believes in Giovanni's greatness - celebrities from all over the world reside in this little Venetian restaurant, hiding away from the busy London streets before seeing plays. Trust me the walls are covered in signed photos, you can't escape the stare of 'The Hoff' when you are tucking into your Carbonara!

Ok sorry enough about the supper, now onto the play.

Held in a beautiful theatre called the Duke of York, David Hare presents his adaptation of The Judas Kiss.

The play depicts the relationship between Oscar Wilde and his beloved Lord Alfred Douglas. Everett and Fox, who play each of the two main characters were sensational, you felt the depth to their relationship, it was simply flawless. I have never witnessed such wit and humour singed with overwhelming melancholy. The play is genius and personally I feel it is unmissable.

Sadly it all came to an end, much to the whole theatre's dismay.

As we were leaving I was told off by my brother for not mentioning that there was a good deal of full frontal male nudity...
Teehee

Hugo's misfortune was mine and my godmother's fortune!

Despite my telling off, we all loved it and raved about it all the way home.
